Post 6 – Object Display

On the 12th November I had been given a new project to start which is called “Object Display” this of which we have the entrance of our building where reception is to come with an idea, from this I had decided to use reference from my treasured object of the teddy bear. By doing this my idea has been that in the space giving, at the end of the area by the windows I want to have a giant teddy bear where as soon as you walk into the building and turn right you see the bear facing front on this was because I want it to be a place where you can go and relax and cuddle up to the bear. During this project I feel that the design on how I have placed the teddy bear has worked out very well as I wanted to give the welcome feel which I think has been showed in the drawings but rough images that I have taken. I have also learnt that when coming to the technical drawings that creating a 3D looking teddy bear can be very easy to show as all I have had to do was take the image of the bear in the right angle and drawing over it then place it onto my design. I had been inspired to use my teddy bear as I feel everyone could use a hug and have time in the day to take their mine off work for a few minutes to refunction. For this project I feel that everything went very well and that there wasn’t a part where I did feel that didn’t go to plan. However, if I was to do it differently next time I would possibly create another teddy bear in a different position it could also be used as another place to relax so more than 2 people can go there. From this it has changed me as an interior designer as I can create an object on how big I want depending on the space and size of the area.

Post 5 – Assembly Tower

For my third project which is known as the assembly tower building, we were set the task to visit the building down in Cardiff bay where we then had to come up with an idea of what can be manufactured inside the building for example a job. When starting the project, my overall design of a hockey stick manufacturer worked very well due to the design layout that I had produced but also the use of equipment needed had allowed there to be enough space for my client to function around in the interior. When doing the technical drawings, I had learned that I wasn’t able to draw the furniture any size that I wanted and that they all had to be a specific size suitable to a standard height of a person. For the project I had decided to be a hockey stick manufacturer by doing this I was inspired as one of my hobbies is hockey, from doing this I was able to put my own knowledge into the project whilst also learning more on how hockey stick are made. Throughout the project there wasn’t really anything that didn’t go as expected other than I had struggled strongly on producing the technical drawing of my design, this of which next time I would change that by doing more practises of the technical drawing side so that I can improve on my drawings making my final pieces a lot more accurate. Overall during this project, it has changed me as an interior designer by making me realise how to work with an interior space in such a small area but also when producing my drawing making the furniture size suitable to the size of the interior space making there enough space for it to be functional.

Post 4 – How Does It Make Me Feel?

For the second week of University the next Project “How Does It Make Me Feel” that I had been given was to create a zine where we had to pick a minimum of 15 images that described us but also inspired us what we liked. Throughout the project there were many parts that went well these of which was creating the actual booklet where all we needed was an A3 sheet of paper and a Stanley knife, from this gathering the images also went well as I had gone to the library to search through books for images that influenced me but had also used the internet. When creating the zine booklet, I had learnt how to make it where it was very accurate and even without making another copy of it. But also, how to fold the paper into the booklet shape so that it can stand up on its own. For the images that I have used for my zine I was inspired by a range of images such as constructivism, artists, buildings, textures and views just have I have always been very interested in them and have used them in previous pieces for my work. During the project I feel that everything went to plan and that there was nothing that happened that didn’t go as expected. Next time if I had to recreate I think I would rearrange the images that I have chosen into a better order but possibly chose more or different images. From this project of the zine it has helped me as an interior designer by using the range of images as I can link into future reference.

Post 3 – Who Am I?

On the first week of university I had been given a Project called “Who am I?” where I had to create at least 5 models. To create the models, we had to use recycled materials such as wrapping paper, foam, plastic and card with many more objects. By creating them we were also given little plastic human figures to place in the space of what we had created, trying to show and give you a realistic effect on how they made you feel. Throughout this project I had produced 8 models where I then narrowed down to my best 5, these of which were  in order above Circus, Incubation, Isolated, Microscopic and Panic Room. Where I thought were my best ones but also with the name given that actually made you feel like them.  From this project I had learned that by creating the model out of recycled materials it can make the image in a photograph look very effective especially when there is a human figure in it making the space look bigger than what it actually is. I was inspired by how simple unused materials could make an image look very successful and effective just by using a range of lighting and changing the angles of where it is coming from. During the project there some parts which didn’t go as expected this was which when using the lighting I had found it quite challenging to get the shadow of the human but also ideas on what I could create with the materials that I had found to create with. Throughout the project the parts that I would do differently next time would be to get more range of materials so that I could create more effective models but also to think more about what I am producing than just making it up as I go along.

Post 2 – Treasured Object

Over the summer holidays I had been given a project, of which I had to create by hand a Treasured Object. Before I started making the treasured object where I was told that it had to be big enough to hold in your hands but also gift wrapped ready for when it gets opened in front of my classmates. From this I had decided to create a memory teddy bear, where I had used my dad’s clothing such as rugby tops as he was a big fan on rugby teams. When creating my treasured object, there were many parts that went well in the process this was where I had cut out all the material into the shaped that were needed by using fabric scissors where I used a sewing machine to attach the main features together and also when I free handed stuffed the bear adding additional features to making it look realistic giving the final touches, this went well as it was basic to do but not very challenging at the same time. When creating my treasured object, I had learned that creating a teddy bear like mine can be very easy to create as I thought it was going to be a lot more challenging than expected but also that you can literally create any animal that you want etc. rabbits, dogs and cats. I had been inspired to create my teddy bear as a treasured object due to having similar styles of them back at home from meaningful reasons behind the clothing used however, those had been made by a professional. Once the main features were done the parts where I thought didn’t go as well as I expected were of hand sewing everything back together, this was because I had found it very challenging trying to sew in parts through three pieces of material, where the thread didn’t look very neat in the end. The meaning behind my treasured object was that I was very close with my dad where we did everything together, by doing lots of activities together to having long chilled nights. By doing this as my treasured object it really showed me how much I looked up to him. Overall with the whole treasured object project, next time I would possibly create it on a bigger scale meaning that the small parts would be less challenging and would look a lot neater as a finished object.

Post 1 – Reflective Writing

The Past

As a person I have discovered that I am a creative and passionate person where I have always been very hands on with projects given. I had first known that I wanted to study interior design in university when I was studying my GCSE’s. This was where I had based my art exam working with space in a bedroom making it functional to live in. For what I know about interior design so far is that it has to be functional where it is suitable for a person to use in their daily routine.

The Present

During this week in university, I have experienced and found out that there are many roots that you can go down in interior design. This of which I have been interested residential interior design where this began in my teenage life I have always had the passion of redecorating my bedroom and new house. However, I had also been inspired by watching programmes such as grand designs and homes under the hammer where there are massive transformations of homes. When visiting the Senedd building I was fascinated by how the use of detail was shown, this of which using wooden planks as the main featured where the centre piece had reminded me of a giant mushroom.

The Future

Once I have graduated university, my main encounter is to become an interior designer, by then I would have a much better understanding of interior design knowing how to produce an outcome at its highest form that from the beginning of university. When learning about interior design I want to have a better knowledge of all the different areas of interior design where I can then improve greatly on my skills for my future life. Furthermore, when getting a better knowledge of interior design, I didn’t know how much detail there was that goes into interior design and features.
